06/19/2019 08:00 AMThe recent Appellate Court decision that invalidated Clinton Planning & Zoning Commission (PZC) approval of an amendment to zoning regulations that would’ve allowed more junk to be stored on contractors’ storage yards was predictable. PZC member Carl Neri had an obvious personal and financial conflict of interest and shouldn’t have been allowed to badger, bully, and threaten residents attempting to speak in opposition. Of course, the court found that allowing Neri’s participation was very wrong and completely negated PZC’s decision.
I had filed a formal complaint to the Ethics Board regarding Neri’s clearly prohibited participation in that contractors’ storage yard public hearing. However, the Board of Ethics incredibly found that Neri had not violated its code. What? How could that be, you ask? Ethics Board members are not elected, they are appointed by the Board of Selectmen. Clinton is notorious for its corruption and “good ol’ boy” politics. This Appellate Court decision is just the most recent evidence that ignorance and corruption is prevalent in Clinton. We cannot trust town officials who think they can do whatever they want.
It makes no sense that Ethics Board members are appointed. They should be elected. This needs to be corrected as soon as possible.
