Appreciate All the Support

As a part-time associate of Stop & Shop in the East Haven store, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our cause in the recent strike. This was difficult for everyone, and much patience was required by all parties to get through it. We appreciate all the support we received.

I’m thankful for my co-workers who stood on the picket line in the rain and bright sun for hours at a time; our neighbors and friends who provided coffee, donuts, pizza, sandwiches, baked goods, veggie trays, fruit, and most of all, support and respect for the picket line; the many businesses and restaurants who provided food—trays of ribs, chicken, sandwiches, and more, as well as offers of discounts at their establishments; and the back-up support we received from other unions and their workers who joined us on the line and the East Haven Fire Department.

I appreciate the public’s patience for any inconvenience due to noise and honking supporters.

I would also like to acknowledge our store managers, who were caught in the middle between their company superiors and us, the workers with whom they interact every single day. They were required to be on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the duration of this difficult event, leaving their families and disrupting their lives as well. They worked hard to keep the store in the best condition possible for our anticipated return.

We’re all glad to be back at work, earning an honest living for our families and looking forward to seeing everyone we have come to know come back to us so that we can continue to serve our community. I thank everyone for their support.
