Help Clean Up and Beautify
As spring approaches, The Main Street Beautification Committee (a.k.a. The Wednesday Weeders) are gearing up for our 15th season. Our group was formed to help clean up and beautify town properties in need of care. We currently care for the Memorial Gardens in front of town hall, the gardens around the town clock and the sign, the Post Office, the three berms in front of the Buckingham Building, the entrance to the transfer station, and various planters along Main Street. The local veterans, along with shop owners and other volunteers, are of great assistance.
We meet weekly for cleaning up and planting in time for Memorial Day celebrations. We maintain these areas throughout the summer with weeding and watering. In the fall we plant up to 60 mums. For the holidays, we add festive greens to our planters.
This year we have several members retiring and are in need of new volunteers. The requirements for joining our prestigious group are a fondness for gardening and making new friends. We like to see our volunteers regularly, but a formal commitment is not necessary. Those interested in more information may call me, Deborah Desautel, at 860-395-0408.
