10/03/2018 08:00 AMAs a resident of North Haven for more than 50 years, I found it necessary to reach out to my state representative, David Yaccarino (R-87), for assistance on two issues of great concern to me and my family.
First, I learned that the Medicare Savings Plan was eliminated by the state due to budget cuts. This posed a serious threat to the seniors of our state who depended on this benefit to help manage their health costs. David listened to my concerns and took that message to Hartford where he worked with his colleagues to restore this benefit to us.
Secondly, I discussed with Mr. Yaccarino the fact that my granddaughter had been wait-listed for admission into UConn’s Graduate School Doctorate of Audiology Program in 2016. It was my granddaughter’s passion to attend UConn to further her education and as an honor student; she was devastated that she had not been admitted. I asked David if there was any way he could help her achieve her dream.
My granddaughter reapplied to UConn in 2017 and Representative Yaccarino wrote her a letter of recommendation. He reached out to the school and kept us informed of any and all communications with the school. The wonderful news is that my granddaughter will be attending UConn this fall!
I commend Mr. Yaccarino for his efforts on our behalf. He is a person that goes above and beyond to assist the citizens of North Haven. We are fortunate to have David Yaccarino as our representative and for these reasons, I will be voting to send David back to Hartford to continue his good work.
