11/29/2017 07:00 AMIt’s disconcerting to me how people show a lack of respect for the law and our students every morning on my drive to Guilford High School and at the high school.
I come from Route 1 onto New England Road every morning to drop off my son. It is unbelievable the impact of tailgating, speed, and the lack of obeying the stop sign at a four-way stop.
There is a student who walks to school every morning. Most people are not slowing down and being cautious with him. Parents and other drivers on that road need to slow down and take cautionary measures.
Then when I enter the drop off lane, I see more disrespect for the law.
Does everyone remember that you cannot stop a car in a crosswalk? These are for students trying to cross from the parking lots! Why is everyone in such a rush that they can’t wait until the cars in front of them move up and drop their kids off near the drop off-area? Why are they unable to stay in line? The sign says so. Just because someone drops off their child prior to the drop off area does not mean they should drive around the other cars. One day another car is going to move forward and there will be bumps on each cars. Are they in that much of a hurry?
The dean of students waves her arms to move drivers up so cars can keep coming in. Let’s stop ignoring her.
What is so much more important than the safety for our students?
