The Way It’s Going

I find it funny that as it gets closer to the election, more attacking is going on. There won’t be a debate, which I find as a disservice to all residents, but the smear ads begin. People say the town is “thriving” and “improving,” but our schools are ranked low in the state, our parks are unsafe and falling apart, it took years of complaining to get the front of the old high school cleaned up (which happened so close to the election), people are sending their children out of town for school, and our Board of Education is not run in the interest of our kids, and so on.

So of course to those who have no kids enjoy lower taxes and a surplus, but when you’re not improving our town and not spending money to improve many things, then obviously you don’t need to raise taxes or spend our surplus. But people are content with the way things are—fine with abuse of power; fine with the stigma our town has; fine with leadership that shows no interest or regard for residents, especially when they have a different opinion; fine with a mayor getting us in the headlines for negativity.

In the end this town has become complacent with where we are and only seems to care about those without children or who are seniors. When it comes down to it, our children suffer and they should be better cared for if we expect them to be our future leaders in this town. With the way it’s going, our kids will be getting better educations in other towns and that should not be happening. There is no excuse and there has been no accountability, just finger-pointing and that is poor leadership and a poor example.
