Never Answered our Questions

First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove says that the Senior/Community Center was approached by a “thoughtful process” that engaged the community over many months to build “consensus and support” [“Jamie Cosgrove: Branford’s Republican First Selectman Candidate,” Oct. 19].

The truth is that all but one of the many seniors who attended the first meeting opposed the proposal. It was also spoken against and opposed at the second meeting—but the publicity said that it was overwhelmingly accepted!

He says he will listen to concerns and input from citizens. Yet, for two years he has listened to our concerns, and never answered our questions, or done anything about them.

We have asked for the dimensions of the one elevator. Two years later he has been unable to read the blueprints or get an answer to our question. We have ascertained that the elevator will probably accommodate only one person with a wheelchair or walker. So there will be a long line of seniors trying to get to a meeting on time.

We have asked the size of the three women’s non-handicapped bathroom stalls—are they big enough to allow a person with a walker to enter and turn around? He doesn’t know. We think that they are too small, so all persons with wheelchairs or walkers will have to wait in line for the one handicapped stall.

We have asked whether the driveway where the buses will drop off seniors is wide enough to allow a car dropping someone off to pass the bus, or will they have to wait in line until the bus finally exits? We can’t get the answer.

We had other questions concerning the parking, the traffic problems, the lack of separate rooms for talks, movies, etc.—a large space to be divided by non-sound proof curtains!

I did not vote for him because I don’t trust him with the future of Branford.
