A Proven Track Record

I remember when our schools were in disrepair, teachers were laid off, and the marching band marched with signs instead of instruments. I remember the constant drumbeat of no, no, no, to every attempt to grow our town in a responsible manner. Guilford is in a good place. Leaders with vision who negotiate and compromise in a bipartisan manner can build upon the work that has been started.

Ken Mackenzie supports the senior tax relief program. His father benefits from the program. Will he also support the programs that benefit my family and yours? I don’t understand his motivation to push Charles Havrda aside. What is he planning that Mr. Havrda, a man who has dedicated years of his life to Guilford, would not support? It seems to me that a first selectman could benefit from Mr. Havrda’s knowledge and experience regardless of party affiliation.

Short of drastically changing the character of our town, I don’t know how we maintain town services without reasonable tax increases. There is no magic pill. Our quality of life is not free. For years Wall Street created an illusion of wealth and stability that nearly bankrupted our country. I don’t want to see that same house of cards collapse in Guilford.

I will be supporting Matt Hoey for first selectman. He is the candidate with a proven track record who will enhance our quality of life and not play an illusory shell game with our future.
