09/13/2017 08:00 AMI didn’t get involved with the issues surrounding the CVS plans for Clinton. I was aware that there was overwhelming disapproval on the part of the public and the Planning & Zoning Commission (PZC). What got my attention was the sudden turnaround to a settlement. Rumors had been cynically flying that CVS would ultimately prevail.
The question is, how could Arista Development have prevailed against overwhelming public opposition? We may never find out the truth. What we do know is that the process was ultimately undermined by members of the PZC itself. Arista Development’s appeal was based upon willful violation of open meeting laws. These laws are the foundation of the PZC; ignorance is not acceptable.
Whoever was responsible for the Arista appeal should resign. He or she has brought ridicule upon the PZC. Its objectivity and integrity have been compromised and it no longer has the trust and confidence of the citizens of Clinton.
