02/01/2017 06:00 AMI am writing on behalf of the Madison Democratic Town Committee to express our enthusiastic support for the Scranton Memorial Library renovation and expansion plan. This project has been thoughtfully designed to bring 21st-century library services to the Madison community while respecting and preserving the historic character of our existing downtown area. It will incorporate features to serve the needs of all age groups—children, teens, and adults—while anticipating the needs of future generations. The plan also provides important technological upgrades, easier access with an on-site parking area, and enhanced community space to house the many wonderful programs that the library hosts throughout the year. The Scranton Memorial Library is one of Madison’s greatest assets and we deserve a building that can truly meet the needs of all Madison’s residents.
The Democratic Town Committee would also like to acknowledge the hard work that has gone into the development of this renovation project and into educating the public about the many benefits it will bring to our town. We applaud the efforts of the Library Board of Trustees in bringing forth a plan that is both efficient in design and cost effective for Madison’s taxpayers as it combines public funding with private donations and grants toward the total cost of $15 million. We strongly urge all of your readers in Madison, regardless of their political persuasions, to vote in favor of the $9.1 million bonding referendum on Tuesday, Feb. 7. It is a wise investment in the future of Madison and a community project that is long overdue.
