The Right Thing to Do
I write to encourage all of your readers to vote “Yes” on June 14 to pass the Guilford budget. We came together a few years ago and voted to replace our old, moldy, sprawling, inefficient high school because it would cost more to maintain it than to build a new one.
This was an important community decision with a significant price tag, but the new school brings more to our town than a price tag. It brought new residents to Guilford who value the education and community services that we all treasure at a time when many towns in Connecticut are losing residents. It has restored a sense of pride among the students at our flagship school, which has modern classroom features that keeps Guilford’s students competitive when they graduate.
Building a new high school was the right thing to do, and voting in support of the budget on June 14 is critical to maintaining the high quality of education throughout our town that we all expect. We have to see this through.
