A Tribute to his Service
We are all very saddened by the sudden and terrible loss of Deep River First Selectman Dick Smith and extend our deepest condolences. We knew First Selectman Smith as a loving and devoted family man, an engaged citizen, and leader. He was a man who never tired of working for the benefit of people, not only for the community of Deep River, but also Chester and other area towns through the Connecticut River Council of Government. His long record and repeated re-elections are a tribute to his service for the past 26 years as Deep River’s first selectman.
Dick served in many other capacities over the years as well, including as Deep River constable, participant with numerous boards and commissions, and as an active member of the Democratic Town Committee. He cared deeply and was involved. Our communities benefited from his service and commitment. He will be sorely missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and our fellow neighbors.
