Appreciating Creative Spirit

Forty years ago, the Madison Art Society (MAS) planted the first seed by creating an art society. Since that time, we have cultivated the shoreline community in appreciating our creative spirit and have grown our membership to 250 artists. MAS’s purpose is to promote, sponsor, and encourage excellence in fine arts in our community, the schools, and among its members. The generosity of individuals, businesses, and merchants over the past 40 years helped us to meet our goals and to support art along the shoreline. As a member of the Madison Chamber of Commerce, we encourage our artists to shop at nearby business establishments; as a non-profit organization, we return their continued interest in the arts with our own support.

MAS is conducting its 40th annual Juried Art Exhibition and Sale at the E. C. Scranton Memorial Library from May 4 to 29. Over the years, the prize fund for the show has been supported by donations from many shoreline individuals and businesses. Their generosity is greatly appreciated by the society’s members. MAS is a proud organization—with the partnership from our donors, we will continue to provide important services to the community.

For our part, our artists who sell paintings from any of the society’s exhibits are encouraged to support the library by giving 10 percent of the proceeds of a sale to the library and five percent to the Shoreline Arts Alliance annual student visual arts scholarship. Over the past 10 years, the library has received more than $15,000 from MAS artists. We are delighted and proud to call the library, the town of Madison, and our shoreline neighbors our “home”.

Thanks are due to the library and the donors who continue to enhance the cultural activities of the community.
