Truly Constructive Change

Think it's time for a change? Let's see. Nationally, Connecticut has the highest gas tax, the highest level of debt per person, and a nine-plus percent unemployment rate; is rated as one of the worst states (currently third) to start a business or operate a business; has lost population and corporations to other states including Massachusetts and New York; and is ranked 44th out of 50 states in economic outlook, etc. In recent years, Connecticut has lost too many retired residents, many citing taxes and cost of living as reasons for departure. Our university educated young people are leaving the state in droves due to lack of opportunities. I could go on, but you get the picture.

It seems the Democrat-controlled legislature's solution to this array of problems was and is to raise numerous taxes and fees, the latest tax increases being the largest in state history. Particularly onerous is the repeal of the tax exemption for clothing valued at $50 or less, an exemption specifically designed to help families experiencing financial difficulties. I suppose our Democrat officials in Hartford felt that these fiscally challenged citizens weren't paying their fair share.

I vigorously urge the voters of the 12th Senate District to initiate truly constructive change by supporting Cindy Cartier for state senator. Her admirable service to Guilford (selectman, Board of Education, etc.), her legal skills as an attorney, and her financial competence as an owner and operator with her husband of two local small businesses has furnished her with the ability to help launch a brighter economic future and more responsive state government for us all.
