East Haven graduate Julia SanGiovanni recently received some big-time distinctions for her performance with the softball team at Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) this year. SanGiovanni, a senior third baseman, was selected to both the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association All-New England Region II First Team and the All-Little East Conference (LEC) First Team, in addition to being named the LEC Player of the Year.

This marks the second time that SanGiovanni has been named to the All-Region First Team in her collegiate career. She also became the seventh player in the history of the ECSU softball team to be chosen as the LEC Player of the Year. This marks the third time that SanGiovanni was selected for the All-LEC Team.

SanGiovanni has broken her own single-season school record for hit by pitches with 21 on the year. She has also set the school record for doubles in a season with 19. On the season, SanGiovanni has a .412 batting average with 7 home runs, 26 runs scored, and 42 RBI for ECSU, which has an overall record of 43-5 entering the NCAA Division III National Tournament this weekend. The Warriors won two games against Randolph-Macon College in the NCAA Division III Super Regional on May 20 and May 21 to advance into the National Tournament.

SanGiovanni is a 2018 graduate of East Haven High School, where she played softball, ice hockey, and volleyball. SanGiovanni helped the East Haven softball team win the Class L state title in 2015 and was a four-time All-SCC selection and two-time All-State honoree for the Yellowjackets. She also earned All-Conference honors three times and All-State accolades twice as a goalkeeper in hockey. SanGiovanni, a sports management major at ESCU, was also a Scholar-Athlete, the vice president of the National Honor Society, and her class treasurer at East Haven.
