Morgan Baseball Posts Victory Versus Cromwell; Girls’ Lacrosse Notches Win Over Old Lyme

Baseball

The Morgan baseball team played two home games last week and split the set to move to 6-10 for the 2022 season. The Huskies earned a win over Cromwell before taking a loss against Haddam-Killingworth in last week’s action.

Morgan kicked off the week by posting a 4-1 home victory against Cromwell on May 3. Senior Garret Garbinski led the Huskies to the win by turning in an excellent performance on the hill. Garbinski pitched 7 innings and allowed just 1 run on 2 hits with 11 strikeouts to get the win for Morgan. Senior Ethan Reemsnyder went 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the Huskies’ offense.

Two days later, Morgan hosted Haddam-Killingworth and took a 17-4 defeat versus the Cougars. Reemsnyder had 2 hits for the Huskies, including his fourth home run of the season during the third inning. Senior Bailey Goss also had 2 hits in the contest.

Softball

The Morgan softball team took two defeats last week to move to 3-11 on the season.

On May 3, the Huskies took a 14-0 home loss to Cromwell. Two days later, Morgan hosted North Branford and dropped a 6-0 decision versus the Thunderbirds.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Morgan girls’ lacrosse team split a pair of home games last week to put its record at 2-9 for the season.

The Huskies opened up last week’s action by claiming a 9-6 home win over Old Lyme on May 3. Senior Cailan Steahle and sophomore Maeve Madura both scored 3 goals for Morgan in the victory. Madura also secured 5 draw controls. Junior Brooke Carlisle had 2 goals and 1 assist, senior Alexis Shields scored a goal, and sophomore Ashley Reemsnyder had an assist. Junior Marin Stopkoski made 9 saves in net for Morgan.

Then on May 7, the Huskies hosted St. Paul and took a 16-11 defeat in the matchup. Madura netted 7 goals and won 6 draw controls in the game. Tanner had 2 goals with 2 assists, Shields and Steahle both had 1 goal and 1 assist, and Schmidt recorded 2 assists. Stopkoski made 14 saves in goal.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Morgan boys’ lacrosse team lost three road games last week to move to 6-6 for the season.

Morgan took a 16-9 road loss against Old Lyme on May 3. Junior Ben McDonnell had 4 goals with 3 assists for the Huskies. Sophomore Casey Corrigan scored 2 goals to go with 2 assists, while junior Dylan Mazzarella also netted a pair of goals for Morgan. Junior Jake Mastriano scored a goal, and senior Aiden Madura had an assist.

Two days later, the Huskies dropped an 11-3 decision to the Branford-East Haven co-op team at Branford High School. Then on May 7, Morgan traveled to Bristol for a game versus St. Paul and lost the contest by the score of 14-13.

Boys’ Tennis

The Morgan boys’ tennis team stands at 7-4 on the year after gaining a split of two recent home matches.

The Huskies started off their week by earning a 6-1 home win versus Cromwell on May 3. Junior Joseph Morse claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles for Morgan. Junior Matt Lopez notched a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles; and fellow junior Nick Bausch posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in the No. 4 singles match.

Morgan’s No. 1 doubles team of senior Tarik Hasic and freshman Nate Kinser won a 6-4, 6-4 decision. The No. 2 doubles duo of senior Page Guptill and sophomore Ryder Watson won a three-setter by the final score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Then on May 5, Morgan had a home match with East Hampton and took a 4-3 loss in the contest.

Girls’ Tennis

The Morgan girls’ tennis team split a pair of home matches last week to move to 7-5 on the season.

On May 3, Morgan took a 4-3 home loss against Cromwell. Two days later, the Huskies hosted East Hampton and notched a 6-1 win over the Bellringers.
