The H-K/Morgan/Westbrook (H-K/M/W) co-op girls’ gymnastics squad finished in third place when the team competed at the Class M State Championship last weekend. The Cougars recorded a team score of 132.70 points to take third place among the eight teams that participated in the Class M meet at Jonathan Law High School on Feb. 26. Woodstock Academy finished in first place with 140.30 points.
Junior Juliana Gagliardi of H-K scored a 9.175 on vault and a 9.0 for the floor to highlight her performance at states. Gagliardi also finished with a score of 8.8 on the beam and an 8.3 on bars.
Morgan junior Megan Cafferty scored a 9.0 on vault at the state meet. She also posted a score of 8.75 on floor, an 8.25 for the beam, and a 7.0 on bars.
H-K sophomore Rebecca Rosenblum-Jones finished with scores of 8.375 for the vault, 8.3 on beam, 8.15 on bars, and 8.0 for the floor exercise. Westbrook sophomore Hannah Freund scored an 8.6 on floor, an 8.25 on vault, a 7.4 on the beam, and a 7.35 for the bars.
Prior to competing in states, H-K/M/W competed against two teams in a tri-meet at Flip-Flop Gymnastics in Deep River on Feb. 21. The Cougars swept the meet by posting a team score of 132.45 points to defeat both Mercy (124.45) and Valley Regional (120.65).
Boys’ Swimming and Diving
The H-K/Morgan/Valley (H-K/M/V) co-op boys’ swimming and diving team had a road meet against Hamden last week. On Feb. 23, the Cougars faced the Green Dragons at Hamden High School and took an 88-73 defeat in the contest.
Junior Jack Ferguson took first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.13) for the Cougars at the meet. Senior Connor Levy finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:13.63), junior Alejandro Campo de la Vera finished first in the 100 butterfly (56.83), and junior Joshua Colandrea won the 100 backstroke (1:17.60).
Boys’ Basketball
The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ basketball team hit the road to play St. Paul in its last game of the regular season on Feb. 23. The Cougars took an 87-37 defeat against the Falcons to finish with a record of 3-17 on the year.
Girls’ Basketball
The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ basketball team is competing in the Class M State Tournament this week.
H-K (6-14) is the No. 28 seed in the Class M bracket and played a first-round game at No. 5 Valley Regional on March 1 (after press time). With a win, the Cougars would play the winner of No. 12 North Branford and No. 21 Ansonia in the second round on Friday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The Class M quarterfinals are on Tuesday, March 8; the semifinals take place on Monday, March 14; and the Class M final will be held at Mohegan Sun Arena on either Saturday, March 19 or Sunday, March 20.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
The Rocky Hill/Middletown/Plainville/H-K co-op boys’ ice hockey team took two defeats during the final week of its regular season to finish with a record of 6-13-1.
On Feb. 23, the Terriers took a 7-2 road loss against South Windsor at South Windsor Arena. Three days later, the team played a road game versus the Newington co-op and dropped a 7-2 decision at Newington Ice Arena in its regular-season finale.
