Yellowjackets’ Track Competes in SCCs, States
The East Haven indoor track and field program sent several athletes to compete in the SCC Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 6, after which the Yellowjackets’ girls’ indoor track team participated in the Class M State Championship at that same site on Feb. 10. The East Haven girls’ team finished in 14th place with 10 points scored at SCCs and then finished 15th by scoring 10.75 points in the Class M state meet.
Senior Emily Mazzucco claimed third place in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet-10.5 inches for the East Haven girls’ indoor track team at the SCC Championship. Senior Morgan D’Auria finished fifth in the event with a distance of 15-7.5 for the Yellowjackets.
Junior Jessica Urban finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 4-6 at the SCC meet. Urban also placed 14th in the preliminaries of the 55 hurdles by running a time of 10.57 seconds.
Sophomore Aniya Franklin finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 30-8 for East Haven. Senior Princess Aggrey placed 11th 28-6 in the shot put with a 28-6, and freshman Mercilyn Ackom-Brew finished in 22nd place by throwing 23-9 for the Easties. Sophomore Erica Canfield finished in 16th place for the 300 by timing in with a mark of 47.60.
Freshman Dante Rodriquez finished 13th in the high jump by clearing 5-2 for the East Haven boys’ indoor track team at the SCC Championship. Rodriquez also finished in 15th place in the preliminaries of the 55 hurdles behind a time of 9.81.
A few days later, Mazzucco took third place in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet-5 inches for the girls’ team at the Class M State Championship. D’Auria finished in fourth place for the event with a 16-4 for the Yellowjackets.
Urban finished fifth in the high jump, and Mazzucco finished 11th with both athletes clearing 4-6. Urban also placed 13th in the preliminaries of the 55 hurdles with a time of 10.03. Aggrey finished 16th in the shot put by launching a throw of 27-2 for East Haven.
