Westbrook Girls’ Hoops Wins Season Opener; Boys Take Loss in First Game
Girls’ Basketball
The Westbrook girls’ basketball team tipped off a new season by defeating Portland in its first game of the year last week. The Knights are entering their first season with new Head Coach Sean Donadio this winter.
On Dec. 16, Westbrook hosted Portland for its season opener and claimed a 48-36 win against the Highlanders. Westbrook trailed Portland 14-9 after the first quarter, but then outscored the Highlanders in the second (13-9), third (13-8), and fourth (13-5) quarters to come away with the 12-point victory.
Senior Jami Sacco poured home 20 points to lead the Knights to the win. Senior Sadie Susi and junior Adriana Stranieri both scored 11 points for Westbrook on the night. Junior Alex Zanzalari added five points to help the Knights win their first game with Coach Donadio.
Boys’ Basketball
The Westbrook boys’ basketball squad squared off against Portland in its 2021-’22 season opener last week. The Knights lost the game to the Highlanders to start off the year at 0-1.
On Dec. 16, Westbrook traveled to Portland to face the Highlanders in their first contest of the winter campaign. Head Coach Jeff Beeman’s squad took a 65-58 loss versus Portland in the matchup.
