Madison Senior Legion Gains a Split of Four Games
The Madison Senior Legion baseball team played four games last week and came away with a split to put its record at 7-2 in Zone 2 action this summer. Post 79 lost two of three to Hamden before bouncing back with a win over Wallingford in recent play.
On June 23, Madison took a 6-0 road loss against Hamden at Hamden High School. Third baseman Chris Wanat had two hits at the dish for Madison. Pitcher Andrew Earl threw 3.1 innings and struck out two batters.
Madison went on to take a 3-1, 14-inning defeat to Hamden in a home game at Town Campus Field. The game began on June 24, was suspended as it went to extra innings, and then resumed the next day. Catcher Chris Engelhart had three hits for Post 79 in the contest. David Antonetti struck out six batters in seven innings pitched.
Then on June 26, Madison was back on the road to face Hamden and prevailed by a 5-2 final. Matt Carone pitched all seven innings to lead Post 79 to the victory. Will Kranzler had two hits and two RBI on the day.
Madison finished its week with a 1-0 road win over Wallingford at Pat Wall Field on June 27. Jack Pireaux drove home the only run of the game for Post 79. Chris Wanat tossed six innings and had two strikeouts in the victory.
