Tigers See Several Athletes Compete in CIAC Steeplechase
The Hand outdoor track program was represented by several athletes at the CIAC Steeplechase competition last week. The event, which was held as part of the CIAC’s season-ending series that also included the Decathlon, Heptathlon, and Hammer Throw, took place at Willow Brook Park in New Britain on June 15 and 16.
Freshmen Ty Boucino and Jacob Merenda competed for the Tigers in the Boys’ 2,000-Meter Steeplechase on June 15. Boucino finished in 11th place by recording a time of 7:34.34, while Merenda took 12th place with a time of 7:51.68.
In the Boys’ 3,000-Meter Steeplechase, junior Jack O’Keefe claimed eighth place for Hand by posting a mark of 10:26.29. Sophomore Harrison Grenier finished in 16th place with a time of 11:07.60, while fellow sophomore Nick Montano completed the course in 11:34.63 to come in 22nd place.
Senior Keelin Virgulto participated in the Girls’ 2,000-Meter Steeplechase on behalf of the Tigers. Virgulto finished in 45th place overall by recording a time of 9:08.76.
