Old Saybrook Girls’ Lacrosse Remains Undefeated; Baseball and Softball Both Notch Wins

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Old Saybrook girls’ lacrosse team remained undefeated on the season after notching two more wins last week. The Rams’ victories moved their record to 8-0 on the season.

On May 4, Old Saybrook claimed a 19-10 home victory over Valley Regional. The Rams got another stellar effort from Lily Cody who had five goals and three assists in the win. Gilly Hartt and Grace Adams provided four goals and an assist each, while Chelsea Heinke scored four goals in the win. Laura Day tallied two goals in the contest. Samantha Wakelee made four saves in the net for the Rams.

Two days later, Old Saybrook went up against one of the other top teams in the Shoreline Conference in North Branford. The Rams picked up a 13-11 home win over the Thunderbirds,

Cody had another monster performance scoring nine of Old Saybrook’s 13 goals, and she also had an assist in the victory. Hartt added a goal and three assists, while Day supplied two goals. Adams made an assist, and Heinke scored a goal in the win.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Rams played three games last week, but were unable to secure a victory on the slate. With these defeats, Old Saybrook’s record fell to 1-7 on the season.

On May 3, the Rams dropped a 17-1 road contest to Watertown. The next day, Old Saybrook headed to Deep River and took a 20-9 loss against Valley Region. On May 6, the Rams dropped a 14-8 match up with North Branford.

Softball

Old Saybrook had three games on the schedule last week and picked up one win. With these results, the Rams’ record moved to 3-8 on the year.

On May 3, Old Saybrook faced Haddam-Killingworth in a road contest and took a 5-1 loss to the Cougars.

The Rams were able to put a run over the plate in the top of the first, but that run proved all the offense Old Saybrook could muster as H-K tied the game with a run in the first, went ahead with two more in the fourth, and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

The Rams received base hits from Cassie Johnson and Kate Heiden, while Christina Lombardi hit a double, walked twice, stole five bases, and scored a run.

Two days later, Old Saybrook got a win due to a forfeit by Westbrook.

On May 7, the Rams lost a 13-3 home game against Old Lyme.

Old Lyme scored early and often with its first run coming in the top of the first, and two more in the top of the second. The Rams were able to muster a run to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning, but the Wildcats quickly snapped that tie with their two in the second. Old Saybrook pulled within one run in the third, but Old Lyme pulled away with a run in the fourth inning. The Rams once again tried to draw closer with another run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-3.

The Wildcats went off in the top of the eighth inning, scoring eight runs, and they added three more runs in the top of the seventh.

Baseball

The Rams had a busy slate last week with four games on the schedule. Old Saybrook claimed one win out of its four games and moved to 4-9 on the season.

On May 3, the Rams hosted Haddam-Killingworth and took a narrow 2-0 loss against the Cougars.

Three days later, Old Saybrook claimed a 16-6 win over Westbrook.

On May 7, the Rams headed to Old Lyme where they took a 17-2 loss against the Wildcats. The next day, Old Saybrook closed out three games in three days with an 8-6 home loss versus Cromwell.

Boys’ Golf

Old Saybrook played three matches as part of last week’s slate and claimed a victory in one of those matches. With these results, the Rams’ record this year moved to 2-7.

On May 3, the Rams hosted Valley Regional at Fenwick Golf Course and took a 191-243 victory over the Warriors. Garrett Brady earned the medal in the match with a low score of 40 for the Rams.

The next day, the Rams were back at their home links and dropped a 172-193 match against Coginchaug. Brady scored the lowest for the Rams with a 45, while Drew Kulmann was next lowest with a score of 46. Jacob Speed and Joe Sinibaldo each tallied a 51 on the day, and Rylan Murphy ended up with a 59 in the loss.

On May 6, Old Saybrook headed to Black Birch Golf Club and took a 207-221 defeat against Hale-Ray.

Boys’ Tennis

Old Saybrook played two matches as part of last week’s action and took a split of the pair. With these results, the Rams’ record moved to 1-8 on the year.

On May 3, Old Saybrook hosted East Hampton and took a 6-1 loss against the Bellringers. Three days later, the Rams claimed their first win of the season with a 7-0 sweep of Coginchaug at home.

Girls’ Tennis

The Rams had just a single match on the schedule last week, and they earned a victory in that contest. The win improved Old Saybrook’s record to 3-7 on the season.

On May 6, Old Saybrook headed to Durham and grabbed a 4-3 road victory over Coginchaug.
