North Branford Girls’ Hoops Takes Loss in Shoreline Quarters
The North Branford girls’ basketball squad saw its season come to a close with an overtime loss against Old Lyme in the quarterfinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament last week. No. 5 seed North Branford played at 4th-seeded Old Lyme in the Shoreline quarterfinals on March 22 and lost to the Wildcats by a 60-56 score in OT.
The Thunderbirds, who had a bye through the first round of the tournament, finished the year with an overall record of 5-7.
Old Lyme held a 14-11 lead over North Branford following the first quarter of their Shoreline Tournament contest. The Wildcats outscored North Branford 14-11 in the second quarter to take a 28-22 lead into halftime.
North Branford won the third quarter by a 15-11 differential to the cut the deficit to 39-37 heading into the fourth. The T-Birds outscored Old Lyme 12-10 in the final period to send the game to overtime tied at 49. Old Lyme then outscored North Branford 11-7 in the extra session to get the win and advance to the semifinals.
Junior Braeden LeBeau scored 25 points to go with 11 rebounds for the T-Birds in the loss. Fellow junior Marissa Ricardo had 16 points with five rebounds and two steals. Junior Hanna Senerchia scored nine points, senior Erica Piercey had seven assists with four steals, and freshman Keana Criscuolo had two steals for North Branford.
