Old Saybrook’s Soccer Squads Each Get a Win; Field Hockey Continues Strong Season
Boys’ Soccer
The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer squad played a three games this week and came away with two wins and a loss. With these results, Old Saybrook’s record moved to 5-2 on the season.
On Oct. 18, The Rams earned a 5-0 road win against Hale-Ray. The next day, the Rams lost a 1-0 road match against Morgan. The game was back and forth with only a few chances for each team. Morgan went up 1-0 in the second half for good.
On Oct. 23, Old Saybrook had a road contest versus Portland and triumphed by a score of 3-0. The Rams scored all of their goals in the second half. Old Saybrook’s first goal came by way of a misdirected ball by a Portland defender off a free kick from Gannon Efinger. The Rams’ second goal was scored by Bradley Kulmann from 22 yards out for his third score of the season Cam D’Angelo followed with a third goal to ice the victory. Goalie Matt Rothman had a stellar game in net with eight saves.
Girls’ Soccer
Old Saybrook played three games this week and got a little bit of everything back in its results with a win, a loss, and a tie. The Rams’ record moved to 2-4-1 on the year after finishing the slate.
On Oct. 20, Old Saybrook hosted Morgan and took a 1-0 home loss in the contest. Morgan put up its goal in the second half. The Rams had three shots on goal while goalie Abby Colella made six saves in the loss.
Two days later the Rams claimed a 3-2 home win over Portland. On Oct. 24, Old Saybrook played Valley Regional to a 2-2 tie.
Field Hockey
Old Saybrook played a pair of games last week and came away with a win and a tie in the contests. With these results, the Rams’ record on the year moved to 5-1-1.
On Oct. 19, Old Saybrook hosted Westbrook and the two teams played to a 0-0 draw. The Rams’ offense launched plenty of shots on goal, but couldn’t get any past Westbrook’s goalkeeper, who had 16 saves.
Three days later, Old Saybrook had a home game against Morgan and claimed a 5-1 won over the Huskies. Kayla Holt posted a hat trick in the game. Taylor Stone also scored a goal, while Grace Adams added a goal and an assist. Libby Stuart, MacKenna Cooke, and Alexa Coty also added assists in the contest.
Football
The Old Saybrook-Westbrook football team played a pair of 7-on-7 football games this past week. The Rams have four games on the schedule this season against Pequot foes Morgan and Coginchaug/Hale-Ray/East Hampton. Each team plays a two contests against each opponent. Last week, the Rams played both of their road games and took losses in both.
On Oct. 19, the Rams headed to Peters Complex in Clinton to face Morgan, where they took a 41-7 loss versus the Huskies. On Oct. 24, Old Saybrook-Westbrook lost a 54-7 road game against Coginchaug/Hale-Ray/East Hampton.
