Huskies’ Clubs Score Wins Across the Board

Boys’ Soccer

The Morgan boys’ soccer team played a pair back-to-back games this week and grabbed wins in both contests. The victories improved the Huskies’ record to 3-2 on the year.

On Oct. 14, Morgan headed to Westbrook and secured a 4-0 victory over the Knights. The Huskies came out hot picking up their first goal five minutes into the game. Sebastian Salgar beat his defender for a shot on goal, but the keeper blocked it. Then, Alex Gallardo put the deflection into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

The Huskies’ second goal came four minutes later. Salgar was in the mix again when he served up a long cross that Sean Cafferty headed across the goal to Max Skidmore, who one-timed it past the goalie from two yards out.

Up 2-0, Morgan scored two more in the second half and Gallardo notched a hat trick with two more goals to his credit. Gallardo was assisted by Sebastian Kadlof and Manny Romero.

The next day, Morgan hosted Portland at the Indian River complex and earned a 3-2 victory over the Highlanders. The game was also the Huskies’ senior celebration, so all of the team’s seniors got the start.

Portland scored a goal within the first two minutes to make it 1-0. Morgan came back and tied the game in the 15th minute off of a stellar shot by Cafferty, who slotted the ball past the keeper into the side netting on an assist from Gallardo. Cafferty added another goal in the 26th minute off a cross from Kadlof. Just before the end of the first half, Salgar chipped one over the goalie to make it 3-1. Portland scored their second goal off of a free kick just outside the box. The shot was headed for the side netting where Morgan keeper Bailey Goss had a bead on it, but the ball deflected off a Morgan player into the back of the net. Morgan held off the Highlanders the rest of the way for the 3-2 win.
