Huskies’ Girls’ Soccer Notches a Win and a Draw; Field Hockey Drops Two Contests
Girls’ Soccer
The Morgan girls’ soccer team had two games on its schedule last week and scored a win and a tie. With these results, the Huskies’ record moved to 1-1-1 on the season.
On Oct. 6, Morgan headed to Moodus to take on Hale-Ray and picked up a lopsided 9-0 win over the Noises. Carley Schmidt scored a hat trick within the first 28 minutes of the game, and the Huskies had the game well in hand by the end of a 5-0 first half. Schmidt scored her first goal at the 16-minute mark, added another at the 25-minute mark off an assist from Caitlin Steahle, and notched her third goal in the 28th minute. Genna Rauccio scored a goal in the 35th minute, and Amelia DePaul recorded her first varsity goal off an assist from Logan Pernal in the 39th minute.
Jessie Flanagan added a goal in minute 41 off a helper from Clara Franzoni, and seven minutes later, Catie Donadio scored a goal on an assist from Flanagan. Logan Pernal scored her first varsity goal in the 61st minute off an assist from Angelina Comiskey. DePaul closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.
On Oct. 9, the Huskies hosted Valley Regional at the Indian River Complex and both squads played to a 1-1 tie. The first half passes without a score. Carley Schmidt scored an unassisted goal in the 47th minute. Valley’s Taryn Frazier equalized in minute 62, and neither team was able to grab the go-ahead goal.
Morgan outshot the Warriors 6-4, and Lindsay made 3 saves.
Field Hockey
The Huskies lost both of the games on their schedule last week. The defeats moved Morgan’s record to 1-2 on the season.
On Oct. 5, the Huskies lost a 3-1 home contest against Old Saybrook. Nori Lopez scored Morgan’s lone goal of the match off an assist from Alex Wolf. Goalie Abigail Gordon made 24 saves for the Huskies.
Three days later, Morgan hosted North Branford and lost by a score of 5-0. Gordon had 15 saves in the cage.
Girls’ Volleyball
Morgan has two games on the docket last week and lost them both. The defeats moved the Huskies record of 0-3 so far on the season.
On Oct. 6, the Huskies headed to Old Lyme, where they took a 3-1 defeat to the Wildcats. Two days later, Morgan lost a 3-2 contest against Valley Regional.
