H-K Football Beats Morgan for First Win

The Haddam-Killingworth football team picked up its first win of the year by notching a 19-14 road victory versus Morgan in a Pequot Conference Sassacus Division game at the Peters Complex on Nov. 1. Junior quarterback Alex Riccitelli ran for a pair of touchdowns, while James Bobbi rushed for 91 yards for the Cougars in the win. H-K improved to 1-6 overall and is now 1-4 in the division.
H-K trailed 7-0 after the first quarter, but closed the gap to 7-6 when Bobbi scored on a 4-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. Down 14-6 with six minutes to play in the opening half, Riccitelli ran for a 1-yard TD to cut the Huskies’ lead to 14-12 at halftime.
Riccitelli scored his second touchdown of the game on a 9-yard keeper to give H-K the lead at the 7:50 mark of the third quarter. Kevin Cavrell kicked the extra point to make it 19-14. H-K’s defense held Morgan scoreless in the second half to help the Cougars walk off the field with the victory.
After a bye week, the Cougars will resume play on Friday, Nov. 15, when they travel to Stafford to take on the Stafford-East Windsor-Somers co-op team for a 6:30 p.m. start.
Girls’ Soccer
No. 3 seed H-K defeated No. 5 Cromwell by a 6-5 score in the quarterfinal round of the Shoreline Conference Tournament on Nov. 2. The Cougars have an overall record of 12-4-1 on the season.
Kedarjah Lewis scored four goals for H-K in its Shoreline quarterfinal win over Cromwell. Yumi Imai and Kaitlyn Parri both had a goal and an assist in the victory with Parri netting the game-winner with 22 minutes to play in the game. Leah Sosnowski dished out two assists, including one on the go-ahead goal, to help the Cougars prevail.
H-K played No. 2 seed Old Lyme in the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament on Nov. 5 (after press time).
Boys’ Soccer
The Cougars took a 4-1 loss against Prince Tech-University in their regular-season finale on Oct. 28. H-K finished the regular season with a record of 2-14.
Girls’ Volleyball
H-K completed its regular season with a record of 11-9 after dropping a 3-0 decision to Fitch on Oct. 30. The Cougars are the No. 4 seed in the Shoreline Conference Tournament and hosted No. 5 East Hampton in the quarterfinal round on Nov. 4.
Field Hockey
The Cougars didn’t play any games last week, but will complete their regular season by facing Canton and Wamogo this week. H-K has a record of 0-12-1 on the year.
Boys’ Cross Country
H-K competed as a team at the State Open Championship and finished in eighth place at Manchester’s Wickham Park on Nov. 1.
Junior Matt Jennings paced the Cougars by finishing in 22nd place with a time of 16:40 for the 5K course. Jennings was followed to the finish by Christian Uzwiak (64th, 17:23), Caleb Freeman (66th, 17:23), Mason Gorham (116th, 17:53), Sean Rutledge (117th, 17:53), Fisher Harris (138th, 18:12), and Griffin Robinson (168th, in 18:48).
Girls’ Cross Country
The Cougars came in 19th place as a squad when they ran at last weekend’s State Open Championship.
Meara Bodak completed the 3.1-mile course in a time of 21 minutes flat to take 71st place overall. H-K’s other runners at the meet were Julia Callis (92nd, 21:26), Lauren D’Amico (128th, 22:06), Isabel Berardino (152nd, 22:41), Ali Twachtman (158th, 22:53), Brianna Minervino (161st, 23:07), and Ava Dimatteo (174th, 23:49).
