The Guilford High School field hockey team is supporting the Guilford Food Bank by participating in a Pie it Forward! Fundraiser this fall. For $15 per pie, customers can either purchase a pie from Bishop’s Orchards for Thanksgiving or donate pies to the Guilford Food Bank. Pies will be ready for delivery on Saturday, Nov. 16. Players from the Guilford field hockey team will deliver pies to the customers and, for people who wish to donate to the food bank, players will bring the pies to the Guilford Food Bank’s freezer, where they will be distributed just in time for Thanksgiving.
The Pie it Forward! fundraiser runs through Friday, Nov. 1 to support local business and assist with pre-holiday donations to the Guilford Food Bank. Pie flavors include apple, apple crumb, pumpkin, blueberry, pecan, farm fruit, and strawberry rhubarb. All the pies are frozen, uncooked, and come with a list of ingredients and cooking instructions.
“We are proud of our players’ creativity, thoughtfulness, and initiative,” said Kitty Palmer, head coach of the Guilford field hockey team. “It’s great to see the players working together to raise money for the team while supporting the Guilford community.”
Aside from the Guilford field hockey team and the Guilford Food Bank, the Pie it Forward! Fundraiser also supports the local family owned farm, market, and popular family destination Bishop’s Orchards.
The money raised by the Guilford field hockey team and its booster club, The Guilford Stick Club, will be used to pay for extra advantages and costs not covered by the school district, including equipment, spirit wear, and preseason training activities.
Players from the Guilford field hockey team will be out in force until Nov. 1. In the meantime, anyone who would like to purchase a pie or donate to the Pie it Forward! Fundraiser can do so by visiting the booster club’s website at www.guilfordstickclub.org.
