Morgan Boys’ Soccer Shuts Out North Branford; Girls’ Soccer Notches Two Ties
Boys’ Soccer
The Morgan boys’ soccer team played just one game last week and it turned out to be a big win over North Branford. The Huskies’ record moved to 10-2-1 on the season thanks to the victory.
On Oct. 14, Morgan hosted North Branford at the Indian River Complex and blew out the Thunderbirds to the tune of 9-0.
The Huskies received a ton of offensive output from all over the field. Alex Kadlof put the first goal in the net in the first minute of the match off an assist by Zach Tuccitto. A minute later Tyler Mucha put a ball into the net off another Tuccitto assist. Then Tuccitto got in on the scoring action with a goal in the third minute off a Josh Kennedy helper. Kennedy scored a minute later off an assist from Nate Rice. In the 27th minute, Andrew Daly picked up a goal on a Much helper to close out the scoring in the first half and giving Morgan a 5-0 lead.
In the second half, Alex Gallardo scored in the 57th minute off a Daly assist, and Tuccitto scored two minutes later on an assist from Sebastian Kadloff. Daly scored his second goal in the 70th minute off an assist from Evan Baptista, and Nick Boudreau scored the last goal of the game in the 78th minute off a Daly assist.
Nick Rubino and Bailey Goss split time in the net and made five saves between them.
Girls’ Soccer
The Huskies played a pair of games last week and came away with a pair of ties on the slate. The draws brought Morgan’s record to 6-4-3 on the season with three games left to play.
On Oct. 15, the Huskies hosted North Branford at the Indian River Complex and ended up with a 4-4 tie. Morgan led the game 3-1 at the half, but North Branford mounted a comeback in the second half, and the Huskies held the game to a tie.
Maddie Stopkoski picked up Morgan’s first goal in the 12th minute of the contest. Three minutes later Stopkoski made it 2-0 nothing with a goal assisted by Maura Kelly. In the 18th minute, Carley Schmidt scored off a Stopkoski helper to make it 3-0. North Branford drew it to 2-1 in the 29th minute.
After the intermission, Morgan scored in the 60th minute on a Julia Tanner goal and Kelly assist to make it 4-1. The Thunderbirds mounted a comeback with goals in the 62nd minute, 68th minute, and a penalty kick goal in the 69th minute.
Morgan tallied nine shots to North Branford’s seven, and Natalie Novarro made three saves in the net.
Three days later, the Huskies faced off with Portland at the Indian River Complex and the game ended in a scoreless tie. Portland currently holds the first-place spot in the Shoreline Conference, so to play the Highlanders to a stand still is a solid feat. Novarro made nine save in net and Portland outshot the Huskies 9-7.
Volleyball
The Huskies played three games last week and scored a win to go with two losses on the slate. With these results, Morgan’s record moved to 4-11 on the season.
On Oct. 14, the Huskies headed to Hale-Ray and lost a 3-0 contest versus the Noises. Morgan lost the first set by a score of 25-18, the second 25-10, and the third set went deep at 31-29.
Maggie Mahoney led the team with eight kills to go with 19 receptions and an ace, while Charlotte Davenport had nine digs, five kills, and four aces. Lauren Kuever provided 11 digs and two kills, and Sarah Kuever had 18 assists, a kill, three digs, and two blocks. Alexandra Kelly had seven blocks on the night.
Two days later, Morgan headed to East Hampton an won a 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-21) contest. Mahoney had seven kills and eight receptions, while Davenport supplied 13 receptions, eight digs, and two kills. Sarah Kuever had seven kills, two aces, 28 assists, and two blocks. Kelly blocked six hits and had three kills, while Rachael Pellegrini added five kills and two aces. Emma Iovene had nine receptions and 10 digs, while Madeline Dunham provided 12 digs.
On Oct. 18, the Huskies dropped a 3-0 (25-6, 25-22, 25-20) road contest against Coginchaug. Mahoney had four kills, three aces, nine digs, 12 receptions, and a block, while Sarah Kuever added three kills and 10 assists. Kelly had another seven blocks and two kills. Pellegrini supplied two aces.
Field Hockey
The Huskies had a pair of games on last week’s slate and lost both of them. The defeats drop Morgan’s record to 6-6-1 on the season.
On Oct. 14, the Huskies headed to North Branford where they took a 2-0 loss against an undefeated Thunderbird team that has yet to allow a single goal on the season. Abigail Gordon made a valiant effort in the cage for the Huskies by stopping 23 shots in the contest.
Three days later, Morgan lost a 2-1 home decision versus Sacred Heart Academy.
Boys’ Cross Country
The Huskies ran at the Shoreline Conference Championship Meet at Cromwell High School on Oct. 18 and placed 10th overall as a team with a score of 249. Chayse Lofgren finished in 34th place with a time of 18 minutes-4 seconds. Addison Auletta came in 54th at 19:02, and right behind him was Benjamin Auletta at 19:04 in 55th place. Carter Hayash came in 57th place with a time of 19:17. Jason Dombkowski came in 58th place with a time of 19:18, and Aiden Maurais’s time of 19:20 earned him 59th. Lucas Morella finished at 20:00 and came in 65th place.
Girls’ Cross Country
The Morgan girls’ team sent a couple of runners to compete at the Shoreline Championship Meet on Oct. 18. Leah Comisky finished with a time of 24:40 for 58th place, while teammate Isabella Dowd came in 65th place with a time of 25:36.
Football
The Huskies were on the bye this week and will host Haddam- Killingworth at the Peters Complex at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 1
