Cougars’ Football Drops Contest to North Branford; Volleyball Wins Two of Three
Football
The Haddam-Killingworth football squad took a 19-6 defeat versus North Branford in a Pequot Conference road game on Sept. 21. H-K now has a record of 0-2 on the year.
After scoreless first half, North Branford scored the last two touchdowns of the second half to take a 12-0 advantage. The Cougars got on the board when junior quarterback Alex Riccitelli threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Matteo Piacenti with 5:35 to play in the fourth quarter.
H-K followed with a successful onside kick and recovered the ball at the North Branford 35-yard line. However, a fumble on the third play of H-K’s drive gave the ball back to the Thunderbirds, who scored a TD three plays later to increase their lead to 19-6.
Dalton Modehn gained 111 yards on 10 carries for the Cougars in the loss.
H-K will face Old Saybrook-Westbrook at Old Saybrook High School at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Volleyball
The Cougars posted shutout victories over Morgan and Coginchaug to go with a loss against Hale-Ray last week. H-K now stands at 3-1 on the season.
H-K took a 3-0 defeat to Hale-Ray on Sept. 16. Two days later, the Cougars blanked Morgan by a 3-0 score. Then on Sept. 20, H-K recorded a 3-0 victory versus Coginchaug.
Boys’ Soccer
The Cougars lost two of their three games last week to move to 1-3 on the year. On Sept. 17, H-K defeated North Branford by a 5-2 score. The next day, the Cougars dropped a 3-1 decision to Waterford. H-K finished its week by losing a 3-1 contest to Portland on Sept. 20.
Girls’ Soccer
H-K split a pair of matchups in last week’s action and is now 2-2 this season. The Cougars earned a 5-1 win over North Branford on Sept. 16 and then lost a 2-0 contest against Portland on Sept. 19.
Field Hockey
H-K took two recent defeats to move to 0-3 this season. On Sept. 17, the Cougars lost to Westbrook by the score of 8-0. Two days later, H-K dropped a 4-0 decision against Mercy.
