08/24/2019 12:00 AMMatt Fleming of North Branford recently won the 36-hole Shoreline Golf Society (SGS) Club Championship Tournament. Fleming shot a 39 on the back nine to edge out his closest competitors at the Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield. Fleming finished with a total score of 156 for the 36-hole event, which was played from the back tees at two Lyman Orchards courses: the Gary Player course and the Robert Trent Jones, Sr., course.
Glenn Zavorskas of Madison shot a 157 to finish in second place at the Club Championship. Fellow Madison resident Scott Feldman of Madison took third place with a 159, while Mike Rowan of Old Saybrook came in fourth place with a score of 164.
Guilford resident Mike Suozzi finished in first place when the SGS held its 27-hole Net Stableford Championship at Lyman Orchards. Suozzi earned 62 stableford points to take the title at the tournament, which was played on the Apple Nine and Robert Trent Jones, Sr., courses.
Michael Gifford of Chester finished second with 57 points, and Joe Mascola of New Haven placed third with 54 points. Mike Dore of Westbrook finished fourth with 51 points at the event.
The SGS is celebrating its 20th anniversary. With a membership of 86 players, the SGS is a member of both the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Connecticut State Golf Association (CSGA), allowing its members to play in USGA and CSGA events, in addition to providing worldwide-recognized handicaps.
