03/22/2019 12:00 AMOn March 9, the Haddam-Killingworth football team participated in the annual Pequot Football League Weightlifting Competition that was held at North Branford High School. The overall standings were based on the total amount of weight lifted by each team at the meet. H-K finished in fourth place with 17 players recording lifts that totaled 7,920 pounds. There were a couple of athletes from the Cougars who finished first in their individual weight classes.
In the 150-and-under class, Dalton Modehn tied for first place on the bench press (235 pounds), took second in the power clean (195), and came in third place on the squat (305). Modehn finished in third overall in his weight class for the combination of his lifts that totaled 735 pounds. In the 176- to 200-pound weight class, Colin Mack came in first place on the power clean (215) and was the runner-up on the squat (340).
Additionally, several H-K players earned new personal records at the Pequot competition. Those athletes included Tom Perry (squat, power clean), Brett Nielsen (squat), Chris Moore (power clean), Gavin Barile (bench press), Jimmy Bobbi (power clean), Tobias Ketchedjian (squat, bench press, power clean), Jared Frith (bench press, power clean), Kevin Cavrell (power clean), Tristan Hesselberg (power clean), and Ryan Luther (bench press).
