North Branford Hockey Finishes Regular Season with Overtime Triumph
The North Branford boys’ ice hockey team finished its regular season by posting a 2-1 overtime victory against Conard on Feb. 25. The T-Birds won their last five games of the regular season to finish at 9-10-1 and are competing in the Division II State Tournament this week.
Senior captain Sean McKee netted the game-winning goal in the overtime period to push the T-Birds to their win versus Conard. Junior Joe Carbone scored for North Branford in regulation on an assist by sophomore Tyler Waligroski. Sophomore goalie Tyler DiNapoli made 25 saves to earn the win in net for the T-Birds.
The Thunderbirds earned the 12th seed in the Division II State Tournament and will play at No. 5 seed South Windsor in a first-round game on Tuesday, March 5 at 5 p.m. If North Branford wins that game, it will play No. 4 Branford in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 8. The semifinals are on Tuesday, March 12 at Ingalls Rink, and the Division II final will be played at that same site at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 18.
