Girls’ Basketball

The Morgan girls’ basketball team took a 30-23 defeat against East Hampton a Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinal game last week. The Huskies have an overall record of 15-7 as they get ready to play in the Class M State Tournament this week.

On Feb. 19, 3rd-seeded Morgan faced No. 2 seed East Hampton in the Shoreline semis and lost a 30-23 decision at Cromwell High School. East Hampton held a 4-3 edge after the first quarter and was up 13-11 at halftime. The Bellringers increased their lead to 23-16 entering the fourth quarter and then held off Morgan the rest of the way to get the seven-point win.

Sophomore Catie Donadio had 10 points with three rebounds, one block, and two assists for Morgan. Junior Leah McComiskey had nine points, seven boards, two steals, and two blocks. Senior Joelle Vuilleumier pulled down eight rebounds to go with two blocks and two points. Fellow senior Becca Shamp had five boards with one block.

Up next for the Huskies is the Class M State Tournament. Morgan is the No. 15 seed in the tourney and opened with a first-round home game versus No. 18 seed Ellington (13-7) on Feb. 26 (after press time). With a victory, the Huskies would either play at No. 2 Cromwell or host No. 31 Valley Regional in a second-round contest on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. The Class M quarterfinals will be held on Thursday, March 7; the semis are on Monday, March 11 and the Class M state final is taking place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville on either Saturday, March 16 or Sunday, March 17.

Wrestling

Sophomore Louis Bradley wrestled for Morgan in the 132-pound division at the State Open Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 22 and 23. Bradley notched a win and scored four points for the Huskies, who finished in 70th place overall at the meet.

Bradley earned his spot in the Open after winning the 132-pound title at the Class S State Championship on Feb. 16. Bradley, who also won the SCC title, earned a bye through the first round of the Open tournament. In his first match, Bradley faced Tyler Miller of Ledyard and posted a victory on a 9-2 decision. After that, Bradley lost a 5-2 decision against Nik Accousti of Newtown to move into the consolation bracket. There, Bradley lost his bout against Tom Nichols of Bristol Eastern by pinfall at the 3:19 mark.
