Knights’ Field Hockey Shuts Out Valley Regional, 2-0; Soccer Squads Take a Few Defeats

The Westbrook field hockey team earned its second win of the year last week after defeating Valley Regional by a 2-0 score in a home game on Sept. 14. The victory gives Westbrook a record of 2-0 in the 2018 season.
The Knights grabbed their first goal in the opening half, when senior Carolyn Bauman put one in the net off an assist from junior Olivia Hartzell. Westbrook held a 1-0 lead over the Warriors at halftime. In the second half, sophomore Liz Gallagher scored on a pass from junior Alex Young to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage. Westbrook outshot Valley by a 12-1 margin. Sophomore Lauren Horne earned the shutout victory by making one save.
Boys’ Soccer
After opening their season with a win, the Knights lost two games last week to move 1-2 on the season.
On Sept. 13, Westbrook hosted Valley Regional and dropped a 6-1 contest against the Warriors. The next day, the Knights traveled to Durham to take on Coginchaug and lost to the Blue Devils by a score of 6-0.
Girls’ Soccer
Westbrook took three defeats last week and is now 0-4 on the year.
On Sept. 11, Westbrook hosted Haddam-Killingworth and lost a 3-0 contest to the Cougars. Two days later, the Knights had a game and Valley Regional and took a 9-1 loss. The next day, Westbrook lost an 8-1 game against Coginchaug at home.
