Branford Senior Legion Moves to 9-2 in Zone 2; Juniors at 6-6

Senior Legion Baseball

The Branford Senior American Legion baseball team recorded a pair of victories versus West Haven to go with a win against East Haven in Zone 2 play last week. Post 83 improved to 9-2 in its Zone 2 games this year and sits in second place in the standings, trailing Hamden (12-2) by 1.5 games for the top spot.

On June 29, Branford lost both ends of a doubleheader in North Haven by taking a 7-3 loss and a 5-4 defeat. However, Post 83 bounced back quickly when they defeated West Haven by the score of 4-1 in a home game on July 1.

The very next day, Branford hit the road to square off with East Haven and earned a convincing 12-2 victory over the rival 89ers. Branford completed its week by going back on the road to face West Haven, where Post 83 prevailed by a 6-1 final.

Junior Legion Baseball

Post 83 picked up a couple of Zone 2 victories last week to move to 6-6 in zone play this summer. Branford split a doubleheader with West Haven, lost to West Haven the next day, and then notched a win against New Haven in last week’s games.

Branford started off by hosting West Haven for a doubleheader on June 30. Post 83 edged out West Haven by a 2-1 final in the opening game and lost a 16-4 contest in the second game. The following day, Branford took an 11-1 defeat at West Haven in the rubber game of the three-game series against its Zone 2 opponent.

On July 3, Branford finished off its week on a good note as Post 83 earned an 11-6 victory at New Haven in a Zone 2 matchup.

Prep Legion Baseball

Branford took two defeats in Zone A play last week, but then finished the week by earning a big zone victory against first-place Wallingford. Post 83 is now 5-6 in its Zone A games, trailing Wallingford (10-4) by 3.5 games for first place.

On July 1, Post 83 dropped a 5-4 decision in West Haven. Then on July 5, Branford had a game in Wallingford and lost by the final score of 5-3. Two days later, Branford hosted Wallingford and earned a 3-2 victory in eight innings.
