The Hand boys’ tennis team is sporting unblemished record of 16-0 on the year after collecting four more victories last week.
Hand earned a 7-0 sweep versus Guilford on May 6 and then repeated that feat with a 7-0 win against West Haven on May 8. Hand kept the brooms out for Cheshire by posting a 7-0 sweep against the Rams on May 10. The Tigers then edged out Fairfield Prep by the final tally of 4-3 on May 11.
Girls’ Tennis
Hand improved its record to 15-0 following another excellent week that saw the Tigers lose only one out of 28 matches between its four victories.
The Tigers blanked Hamden by a 7-0 final on May 7. Hand swept Sheehan 7-0 on May 9 and then took down Weston by a 6-1 margin on May 10. Later that day, Hand notched a 7-0 sweep over East Lyme.
Hand’s multiple winners in singles play on the week were Sam Riordan and Lindsay Riordan, Annie Barrett, and Ellie Weinstein. Eileen Chen won a singles match versus East Lyme, as well. The Tigers’ multiple doubles winners were Anna Lang and Lee Jiaen, co-captains Nicki Goldfeder and Nell Karas, and Jennie Burris and Clare Nelson.
Boys’ Volleyball
Hand has earned itself a berth in the Class M State Tournament after a netting a victory versus Amity last week. The Tigers now have a record of 8-6 on the season.
On May 7, the Tigers lost a 3-1 match against Cheshire. Two days later, Hand clinched its postseason bid by recording a 3-0 sweep of Amity.
Boys’ Golf
The Tigers now own a record of 7-3 after going 4-0 on the links last week.
Hand earned a 153-167 win versus Cheshire on May 7. The Tigers came right back the next day to defeat Branford 161-176, before besting the Hornets again the next day, 158-202. Hand capped off the week with a 158-201 victory over Sheehan on May 10.
Against Cheshire, Matt Doyle earned medalist honors with a score of 33 for Hand. Joining him on the course were Conner Quinn (39), Mike McKeon (39), and Matt Pellatt (42).
In the first Branford match, Doyle shot a 37 to medal once again. Following him were McKeon (41), Aidan Stuart (41), and Quinn (42).
In the second Branford match, Quinn was medalist was a score of 38 for the Tigers, whose other competitors were McKeon (39), Doyle (40), and Stuart (41).
Versus Sheehan, Doyle medaled with a 36, and other Tigers’ rounds included McKeon (38), Stuart (41), and Quinn (43).
Girls’ Golf
Hand stands at 4-5 after splitting its last two matchups.
Hand won against Sacred Heart Academy by the final score of 204-245 on May 8. The Tigers’ golfers at the meet were Erickson Richard (51), Molly Meyer (52), Josie Anderson (56), Morgan Lipford (60), and Julia Rumberger (63).
The Tigers then took a 185-208 loss to Mercy on May 10. Competing for Hand were Angie Balzano (49), Richard (51), Meyer (54), Anderson (54), and Bella Larizza (55).
Softball
The Tigers improved to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in SCC Quinnipiac Division play after picking up three more victories last week.
Hand routed West Haven by the score of 14-0 on May 7. The Tigers then edged out another division rival by posting a Branford 7-6 win over on May 9. Hand closed out the week with a 9-2 victory versus Sheehan on May 11.
Baseball
The Tigers ended a three-game losing streak by notching wins versus Sheehan and Career last week. Hand is now 13-4 overall and 6-1 in the SCC Hammonasset Division.
Hand was edged 4-3 by Amity on May 7, but then the Tigers bounced back with an 8-3 divisional win over Sheehan on May 9. Jake Crawford improved to 4-0 for the Tigers by pitching a complete game three-hitter. Julian Banerji, Phoenix Billings, and Ian Butler all had two hits Hand, while Tom Hobin added a double and three RBI.
Hand finished the week off with a 17-7 victory over Career on May 11.
Boys’ Lacrosse
The Tigers are now 10-4 after splitting two recent contests.
Hand started off the week by taking an 11-8 defeat against Notre Dame-West Haven on May 7. Then on May 9, the Tigers defeated North Haven by the final score of 14-4.
Girls’ Outdoor Track
Hand took defeats versus Sacred Heart Academy and Lauralton Hall last week.
On May 7, the Tigers took a 113.5-37 loss to Sacred Heart Academy and also dropped 69-64 decision versus Lauralton Hall.
