Coward Earns Third Straight Northeast-10 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year Award
For the third consecutive season, senior Destiney Coward of the Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) womens’ indoor track and field team has been named the Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. The honor officially caps an indoor season in which Coward claimed the NCAA Division II title in the weight throw and also collected United States Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association Regional Field Athlete of the Year laurels.
Coward enjoyed a stellar campaign for the Owls and was ranked as high as No. 3 nationally amongst all three divisions in the weight throw. Her NCAA title in the weight throw was the fifth in the history of the SCSU women’s track and field program, the 80th individual title in school history, and the 90th NCAA title overall. She also won the NE-10 titles in both the weight throw and the shot put, as well as the New England crown in the weight throw, while also earning All-New England honors in the shot put. Coward was also previously named Most Outstanding Performer of the NE-10 Indoor Championships, a meet in which the Owls finished second.
