Henry Leads Branford-Guilford at Class LL Boys’ Swimming Championship
Aidan Henry competed in two individual events and a pair of relays for the Branford-Guilford boys’ swimming and diving team at the Class LL State Championship at Wesleyan University on March 14. As a team, Branford-Guilford scored 72.5 points and finished in 18th place at the meet.
Henry, a sophomore at Guilford High School, swam a time of 4:57.80 in the 500-yard freestyle to finish tied for 11th place with Fairfield Prep freshman Jack Mocarski at the Class LL Championship. Henry’s performance improved upon his time of 5:02.60 from the Class LL Qualifying that was held the previous week and resulted in 15.5 points scored for Branford-Guilford at the championship. Henry additionally scored nine points by taking 17th place in the 200 freestyle at 1:49.05, which bettered his time of 1:51.06 from the qualifying. Henry had previously finished second in the 200 individual medley and fifth in the 50 freestyle at the SCC Championship.
Henry also swam on two relays that finished in 17th place for Branford-Guilford at the Class LL State Championship. In the 200 freestyle relay, the quartet of junior Noah Horton, freshman Daniel Kamen, junior Andrew Orce, and Henry finished with a time of 1:40.15 to score 18 points and improve on their 1:43.40 from the qualifying. For the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Kamen, Horton, Orce, and Henry scored 18 points by taking 17th place at 3:42.70, which was a few seconds faster than their mark of 3:46 from the qualifying meet.
Additionally at the Class L Championship, Branford-Guilford’s 200 medley relay team of freshman David Zhang, junior Matthew Daley, Horton, and sophomore Evan Laughlin scored 12 points by placing 19th with a time of 1:58.63, improving on their time of 2:00.14 from the qualifying.
