Game On Flag Football Coming to Madison This Spring
Game On Flag Football, created by Carroll & Company, is being introduced this spring to introduce the fundamentals of the game to both future tackle players, as well as kids who want to know the rules in order to be bigger football fans. Led by local coaches, the league is aiming to provide basic fundamentals of throwing, catching, stances, and positioning in a fun, competitive environment.
Game On Flag Football is open to boys from any town in Connecticut who are in grades 1 to 6, and the games are held at Strong Field at the Surf Club in Madison. The league will feature a 5-on 5 format with 12 kids per team and one substitution per side. Participants will play both offense and defense, switching at halftime. The league is run by Hand High School varsity football coach Dave Mastroianni, and the teams will be coached by players from the Tigers’ Class L state championship football team.
The eight-week league will take place on Sundays from May 6 through June 24. The first six weeks will consist of league play, the playoffs will take place in the seventh week, and the championship is in the eighth week. Games start at 10 a.m. for 1st grade and go through a 3 p.m. start for 6th grade. Practice takes place in the hour before the start of each game.
