North Haven Baseball Players Lend a Hand to Veterans in Town
On Nov. 11, athletes from the North Haven American Legion baseball program recognized Veterans Day by pitching in to help out some local veterans with their leaf raking on a brisk, fall day. This is becoming an annual event that North Haven’s ballplayers look forward to, including Kevin Lucey, who will be a captain for the high school team in his current senior year.
“Over the past few years playing Legion baseball for Charlie Flanagan and Tim Binkoski, I have gotten to meet some of our local veterans. What amazing group of people,” said Lucey. “They are truly all heroes, and I am so proud to do whatever I can to say thank you for what they have done for us.”
Lucey lent a hand to the veterans while working alongside teammates Mason Balmer, Danny Cannavaciolo, Anthony Cretella, Colby Cusano, Gianni DeMartino, Hunter Garthwait, John Gontarek, Leo Konopka, Jason Landino, Andrew Laudano, Daniel Meyers, Alex Page, Jack Peruso, Owen Silk, Christian Somma, Cole Zalegowski, and Nate Zalegowski. American Legion Post 76 General Manager Charlie Flanagan also took part, as did North Haven baseball coach Mike Proto, and North Haven First Selectman Michael J. Freda.
