T-Birds’ Football Loses to Old Saybrook-Westbrook; Boys’ Soccer Gears Up for Class S Tourney

The Thunderbirds’ football team lost a 55-25 home contest against Old Saybrook-Westbrook (OS-W) on Nov. 3. With the defeat, the T-Birds dropped to 4-4 overall with a record of 3-4 in the Pequot League’s Sassacus Division.
North Branford got on the board first with a 58-yard touchdown run by Charles Walcott, but OS-W took control of the game from there by recording the next seven scores. The Thunderbirds scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Tyler Dinapoli scored on a 2-yard run, Sydney Franklin had 70-yard punt return for a TD, and Marquis McFadden ran home a 7-yard score.
Walcott had a team-best 91 yards on the ground for North Branford, Defensively, RJ Sobask finished with 14 tackles, while Xavier Cognata had 10.
Next up for the North Branford is a trip to Stafford to face Stafford-East Windsor-Somers (7-1) on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Boys’ Soccer
North Branford begins play in the Class S State Tournament this week as the No. 16 seed. On Monday, Nov. 6, the T-Birds will host No. 17 Bolton at 2 p.m. With a win, North Branford will play at top-seeded Old Saybrook in the second round on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. The quarterfinals are on Friday, Nov. 10; the semis are on either Monday, Nov. 13 or Tuesday, Nov. 14; and the final takes place on either Friday, Nov. 17 or Saturday, Nov. 18.
