Orth Scores Four as Indians Put 60 on Foran
The North Haven football team raised its record to 6-2 by blowing out SCC Tier 2 opponent Foran by a 60-14 score at Vanacore Field on Nov. 3. The Indians have now won their last three games and six of their last seven. North Haven is also ranked seventh in the Class L State Playoff rankings in which the top eight teams qualify.
North Haven scored the first four touchdowns of the night en route to a 41-14 halftime advantage against Foran (4-4). Senior Zack Orth had a monster game for the Indians by rushing for 129 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries to go with a TD reception, plus a fumble recovery that he returned for a score.
The Indians found the end zone three times in the opening quarter, starting on Orth’s 1-yard touchdown run just 1:40 into the game. Three minutes later, Orth scooped up a fumble and brought it back 15 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 advantage. Three minutes after that, junior Noah Pastore took in a 10-yard TD run that made it 20-0 after one.
Fifty seconds into the second quarter, Pastore broke off a 39-yard touchdown run that was followed by Orth’s 2-point conversion rush for a 28-0 Indians’ advantage. Foran returned the ensuing kickoff for an 84-yard TD and, just a minute and a half later, the Lions connected for a 63-yard touchdown pass that cut the deficit to 28-14 with 9:03 to play in the half. However, North Haven responded by scoring two more TDs before halftime arrived. First, Mark Montano found fellow senior Steven Erbe on a 76-yard touchdown pass, and the Indians led 35-14 following Chase DiCarlo’s third extra point kick. Then with 1:32 remaining in the half, Orth scored on a 56-yard touchdown run to stake North Haven to a 41-14 command at the break.
Midway through the third quarter, Montano tossed a 24-yard TD strike to Orth for Orth’s fourth score of the night. With five seconds left in the frame, senior Brendan Ziaks scored on a 4-yard touchdown rush to make it 53-14.
Ziaks added a 34-yard TD run midway through the fourth quarter, after which junior Anthony Bello booted the extra point to cap off North Haven’s 60-14 victory.
Montano completed both of his pass attempts for 100 yards and two touchdowns, and he also rushed for 72 yards on 11 carries. Pastore ran seven times for 82 yards and a pair of TDs.
On defense, Erbe had a sack and forced a fumble, while Montano picked off a pass for North Haven. Erbe also had eight tackles, and junior Nick Dodge led the Indians by making nine tackles.
