Cougars Take a 5-4 Loss to the New England Knights
The Shoreline Cougars baseball squad faced off against East Shore Travel League rival, the New England Knights, at the Connecticut Sportsplex in North Branford on July 12. The Cougars lost the game 5-4 in walk-off fashion when the Knights scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Shoreline’s record on the on the summer season stands at 3-10.
The Cougars scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning against New England. Jake Robertson led off with a double and then Sam Erskine singled to put runners on first and third. Trevor Rydel followed with a walk that loaded the bases. Owen Marica got a base hit to plate one run, after which Ross Meglin doubled to clear the bases to make the score 4-0 in favor of the Cougars. The Knights scored one run in the fifth to make it 4-1. In the seventh, New England pushed across four runs to walk off with the victory.
Meglin had two hits and three RBI, while Marica added two hits with one RBI for Shoreline. Patrick O’Leary struck out 10 on the mound.
