Coward Makes All-American for Southern with Record Throw
Former East Haven High School track and field standout Destiney Coward continued her excellent career at the next level by recording a series of big-time achievements this winter.
Coward recently earned East Regional Field Athlete of the Year honors for the second time at Southern Connecticut State University. Coward claimed the Northeast-10 championship in both the weight throw and shot put, captured the New England championship in the weight throw, and also earned All-New England honors in the shot put. Coward’s best mark in the weight throw prior to the NCAA Championship was 64 feet-10 inches, which ranked sixth in Division II. Her shot put mark of 45-6 ranked 32nd nationally. Both were tops in the region this season.
On March 9, Coward placed fourth in the weight throw at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships with a toss of 65-7. Coward’s performance was a personal-best mark and a new school record as she claimed All-American honors for the second time in her career with the Owls.
