Girls’ Basketball

The Morgan girls’ basketball team picked up its first win with first-year Head Coach Caitlin Woods when the Huskies earned a 52-46 decision over Portland on Dec. 23.

The game was a battle to the end, but outstanding performances by Sydney Chomicz (21 points and 10 rebounds), Maddy Seeger (10 points), and Brianna Navarra (17 points) helped Morgan defeat the Highlanders. Shannon Maher hit two crucial free throws for the Huskies to clinch their initial victory of the year and with Coach Woods.

“I couldn’t be more proud of these kids. They dug deep and fought to the end,” said Woods. “Brianna Navarra was outstanding, and, most importantly, this win was an entire team effort. It was a great way to go into our holiday break after a tough start to the season.”

On Dec, 27, Morgan dropped to 1-4 with a 55-23 loss to Waterford. In the previous week’s action, the Huskies lost to Cromwell 74-15.

Boys’ Basketball

Morgan began its year with a 46-31 loss to Cromwell on Dec. 20 and then lost a close contest to Portland, 49-47, on Dec. 23.

Last year, Morgan finished with a record of 10-11 for the regular season, after which the Huskies dropped a 67-53 decision at Old Saybrook in the first round of the Class S State Tournament.
