Caitlin McNary Swims to Two Second-Place Finishes at the State Open
Competing as a team-of-one at the State Open Girls’ Swimming Championship on Nov. 19, senior Caitlin McNary led Westbrook to a 25th-place finish out of 50 schools with 54 points scored as she placed second in both of her events.
McNary competed in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle and finished just tenths-of-a-second shy of the top spot in each event at Yale University. In the 100 freestyle, McNary finished in 51.08 seconds and was right behind McKenna Dale of E.O. Smith, who took first at 50.96. For the 200 free, McNary timed in at 1:50.96 and was only behind Ridgefield’s Marcella Maguire (1:50.05). Previously, McNary had won both the 100 freestyle (51.46) and the 200 freestyle (1:50.89) at the Class S State Championship.
“I was extremely proud of my swims,” McNary said. “To place even higher at the Opens than last year was what I was the happiest about. I feel like I ended my high school career on a really positive note.”
