On Nov. 11, members of the North Haven American Legion baseball program joined together with other local groups and commemorated Veterans Day by raking leaves for some of the veterans who live in town.

“Veterans Day is an important day for showing appreciation to members of our military, past and present,” Head Coach Tim Binkoski said. “This event was an excellent opportunity for our kids to show their thanks and support for our service members.”

First Selectman Michael J. Freda and State Representative Dave Yaccarino were on hand at the event. Among the ballplayers from North Haven who lent a helping hand were Dale Arnold, Mason Balmer, Danny Cannavaciolo, Colby Cusano, Connor Dwyer, Peyton Farina, Nathan Friess, Matt Iovanne, Leo Konopka, Jason Landino, Andrew Laudano, Luca Lawrence, Kevin Lucey, Tom Myjak, Nick Perillie, Jack Peruso, Zack Pincince, Chris Stevens, Mark Tantorski, and Nate Zalegowski. Team captain Brendan Clark also pitched in and felt proud to do so.

“Being out here, not just as a team, but as members of this country giving back to the people who gave so much for our freedom, it just feels right,” said Clark. “These people or their loved ones put their life on the line, so that teams like ours can go out any day of the week we wish and play the game of baseball that we all love in the country that we love. All of us here feel that raking the leaves in their yards is the least we can do to say thank you for their sacrifices and for their commitment to our beautiful country.”
