Yellowjackets’ Football Edged by Hamden; Cross Country Runs at SCCs
Football
The Yellowjackets’ football team took a 30-24 defeat at home against Hamden on Oct. 21. This was a much-anticipated matchup after the game these two schools delivered a year ago, when East Haven won in four overtimes in one of the longest games in Connecticut high school football history. The two teams played a tight game once again, but East Haven’s comeback effort fell just shy as the team dropped to 2-3 on the season.
Evan Damian started the scoring for the Easties as he hammered home a 37-yard field goal attempt. Hamden then scored 30 points in the second quarter to East Haven’s 14 to go into the break with a 30-17 lead. East Haven’s final score came in the fourth quarter.
Nate Lastomirsky went 6-of-9 for 78 yards through the air for the Yellowjackets. McClay Marshall completed his only pass for 43 yards and also ran for a team-best 133 yards with a score. Jay Donaldson rushed for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Easties’ defense was all over Hamden’s quarterback with seven sacks. Andrew Luzzi, who had a team-high 12 tackles, finished with a pair of sacks, as did Tim Seksinski. Jose Campos, Corey Waselik, and Niam Coward all recorded a sack apiece.
