Tigers’ Girls’ Soccer Takes Three; Volleyball Beats Lauralton in Five
Girls’ Soccer
The Tigers’ girls’ soccer squad was living in shutout city last week by blanking Norwich Free Academy 4-0 on Oct. 10 and defeating East Haven 6-0 the next day. Hand later posted a 6-2 blowout of Lyman Hall on Oct. 14 to finish the week at 8-1-3.
Taylor Scully scored four goals to lead Hand over Lyman Hall. Senior captain Sam Mayhew added a goal and an assist, plus senior captain Nicole Luongo had one goal. Sophie Dickman and Sophie Cohen each added assists for Hand. Goalkeeper Lily Geshwind made five saves with the Tigers outshooting the Trojans 28-6.
“Defender Viv Mazzarella had a strong game, winning balls and starting the attack out of the back, connecting passes to midfielders and forwards. Outside midfielder Gabby Egidio was always dangerous penetrating out wide. She was robbed twice by Lyman Hall goalkeeper Aquia Providence,” said Head Coach David Dikranian. “Even though we scored early and were playing well, we had a little bit of a letdown and allowed Lyman Hall to get back into the game late in the first half. But to our credit, we came out strong the second half, played hard, and played better.”
